Cramp Bark & Parsley Herbal Tea
Dysmenorrhea (difficult, painful periods) occur when the uterine sheds its lining during menstruation, to do this the uterus contracts. It’s these contractions that cause the pain, cramping and discomfort that many women experience during or just before their periods. The pain may occur in the lower abdomen or but may also be felt in the lower back, vulva and down the thighs. For many women this might be a mild pain and pass fairly quickly but for others it can be debilitating.
Cramp Bark, Black Haw Bark Parsley are excellent herbs for women who experience difficult, painful periods. They are effective antispasmodic herbs that can help alleviate menstrual cramping and pain associated with periods. Their antispasmodic properties can help to reduce the uterine contractions and muscle spasms that are responsible for the pain.
Together these herbs make a powerful herbal tea that can help to reduce the pain of dysmenorrhea and let you get on with life even during your period.
INGREDIENTS
60g (4 tablespoons) - Cramp Bark (Viburnum Trilobum)
60g (4 tablespoons) - Black Haw bark (Viburnum prunifolium)
60g (4 tablespoons) - Parsley leaves (Petroselinum crispum)
INSTRUCTIONS
Mix all of the herbs together.
Add 1 teaspoon of the mixed herbs to a cup of water.
Simmer for 5 - 10 minutes.
Strain the liquid.
Allow to cool.
Bottle and store in a cool place.
DOSAGE
Take ½ - 1 cup every morning and evening. Take more in the week leading up to period to relieve symptoms of PMS.
SIDE EFFECTS
Although most herbs are generally considered safe to use there is the slight possibility of allergic reactions or adverse reactions when used with other medication although this is rare.
Cramp Bark, Parsley and Haw Bark are both considered safe to use, but should be avoided if pregnant and/or breastfeeding. Black Haw should not be used if you have kidney stones or are allergic to aspirin.
